Olympic triathlete Julie Swail Ertel and her husband, Greg Ertel, have announced the birth of twins – Catherine Ann and Jackson Reid – born on November 16.

The Ertel family says Catherine Ann (2 pounds, 9 ounces) and Jackson Reid (3 pounds, 6 ounces) are doing well and they plan to take the twins home around Christmas.

Ertel has been an elite triathlete since 2003. She is a member of the USAT National Team and after winning the U.S. Olympic Trials in Tuscaloosa, Ala., she traveled to the 2008 Olympic Games, where she placed 19th. Before bursting on to the triathlon scene, Ertel was a national team member of USA Water Polo from 1993 to 2001, winning a silver medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.
