American triathlete Joe Umphenour had a disappointing end to the season while he was representing the United States at the ITU Long Distance World Championships.

The 41-year-old veteran was leading the bike on one of the toughest bike courses in the world before he took a hard fall. According to his facebook page, Umphenour suffered a broken collarbone and scapula as a result of the crash.

The bike course of the world championships took place on the German side of the Alps and featured several tight turns and fast descents.
