Aero Road Bike: Cervelo S3

Not everyone wants to go all in on a tri-specific bike. This aero road bike can pull double duty for tri with a few modifications.

Due to the fact that Cervelo’s S5 has integrated handlebars and front end—preventing the mounting of even aftermarket aerobars—the S3 is the next-best choice for an aero road rig that still works well for tri. A well-balanced ride that has excellent acceleration and manageable road-feel compliance, the S3 is also a good choice for triathletes because an aftermarket zero-degree seatpost is available to dial in a more powerful aerobar fit. Also, be prepared to swap out the stock handlebars with a set that accepts clip-ons.
