The 2014 National Championship season begins with the USA Triathlon Collegiate National Championships on April 4-5, which will once again be hosted in Tempe, Ariz., near the Arizona State University campus. Collegiate clubs will have athletes represented in three championship races: a 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike, 5-kilometer draft-legal sprint, the traditional 1,500m swim, 40k bike, 10k run championship and the four-person Mixed Team Relay, in which athletes will complete a 250m swim, 5k bike and 1.2k run.
Age Group Nationals, USA Triathlon’s marquee event, will return to Milwaukee, Wis., after a record field of more than 4,000 athletes competed in 2013. The Olympic-distance race, scheduled for Aug. 9, features a 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike and 10-kilometer run, while the sprint race on Aug. 10 is comprised of a 750m swim, 20k bike and 5k run.
West Chester, Ohio, will once again host Youth and Junior Nationals, slated for Aug. 2-3 and featuring athletes ages 7-19 in four championship events. The draft-legal races for Junior Elite and Youth Elite athletes showcase talented up-and-coming multisport stars who may one day represent the U.S. in an Olympic Games, while the Youth National Championships provide an exciting environment for youth age-group participants who may just be getting their start in the sport.
The Cary, N.C., Cary Duathlon will host the USA Triathlon Long Course Duathlon Nationals in 2014, which will consist of a 5-mile run, 31-mile bike and 5-mile run.
Long Course Triathlon Nationals will be contested at the Grand Rapids Triathlon in Grand Rapids, Mich., and will feature a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run.
Rev3 Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, will host Aquabike Nationals on Sept. 7. The swim-bike championship is in its third year, and athletes will complete a 1.2-mile swim followed by a 56-mile bike.
Aquathlon Nationals is set to take place at the Oct. 5 Route 66 International Course Splash and Dash in El Reno, Okla. The late-season event includes a 1,500m swim in Lake El Reno leading into a 10k run.
Paratriathlon Nationals, Club Nationals and Off-Road Nationals will be announced at a later date.
In addition to chasing national titles, athletes also will be competing for prized spots on Team USA at a number of USA Triathlon National Championships.
