San Rafael Triathlete Critically Injured Training For Ironman Hawaii

Friends and fellow athletes expressed sympathy Thursday for Monique Petrov, a triathlete and cyclist preparing to compete in the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii, who was struck down while riding Wednesday on Lucas Valley Road in San Rafael, Calif.

Petrov, 39, remained hospitalized Thursday with major injuries. Word spread throughout the cycling community of the accident, which happened at about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. Petrov was riding on Lucas Valley road when an unidentified motorist turning left onto Canyon Oak Road struck her, police said.
