The Ironman 70.3 Eagleman course
The 70.3 Eagleman course marks the Ironman Pro Series’ return to the United States, with several pros taking on the Maryland course for the first time. Athletes will kick off the race with a 1.2-mile protected open water swim through the Choptank River, then segue to a 56-mile flat bike through the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. They’ll continue to speed through a 13.1-mile flat run until they hit an iconic finish line at Gerry Boyle Park lined with cheering fans.
Who (and how) to follow at Ironman 70.3 Eagleman
In addition to podium steps and bragging rights, pros will be competing for up to 2,500 points toward their Ironman Pro Series standings, a $50,000 pro prize purse, and three slots per gender for the 2025 Ironman 70.3 World Championship triathlon in Marbella, Spain. Highlights of the 70.3 Eagleman start list include:
- 2023 Ironman and 2021 70.3 World Champion Lucy Charles-Barclay (GBR) will make her Ironman Pro Series debut after focusing on T100 racing last year. The Brit is poised to perform well following a dominant win at Ironman Lanzarote – can she keep the momentum going in Maryland?
- Charles-Barclay won’t be the only world champion on the start line – 2022 Ironman World Champion Chelsea Sodaro (USA) and 2016 70.3 World Champion Holly Lawrence (GBR) are also slated to race, and both are looking to make a splash as they pursue points and standings in the series.
- In the men’s field, the Lionel Sanders (CAN) and Sam Long (USA) rivalry will gain a new chapter as they face off at Eagleman.
- Other notable names on the men’s start list: Cam Wurf (AUS), Ben Kanute (USA), Trevor Foley (USA), and Jackson Laundry (CAN).
