Hoffman, Rollison Win Ironman 70.3 Muncie

Americans Ben Hoffman and Melissa Rollison took the titles at today’s Ironman 70.3 Muncie race in Muncie, Ind.

Hoffman’s win came thanks to a field-leading 2:01:11 56-mile bike split. He followed that with a 1:18:31 half marathon for the 3:48:14 victory. Fellow American Mike Caizzo used a 1:16:07 half marathon to run his way from eighth off of the bike to second at the finish line. Great Britain’s Rich Allen turned in a well-rounded day to finish third.

Rollison upset pre-race favorites Kelly Williamson (USA) and Leanda Cave (GBR) by working her way through the field on the bike and the run. She capped her day off with a 1:19:19 half marathon to give her the 4:08:48 win. Williamson finished second, with Cave rounding out the podium in third.
