A memorial 5K is taking place in Tempe, Ariz. on Saturday, Dec. 10. All proceeds will benefit the Sally Meyerhoff Foundation—an organization dedicated to providing shoes and clothing for the less fortunate.
As one of the country's top women runners, Sally Meyerhoff was training for the 2012 Olympics and her next triathlon. However, a traffic crash killed her instantly and lead to a large gathering of her friends and family Saturday.
Meyerhoff had recently started competing in triathlons and said she would go after a spot in October's Ironman World Championship.
Canada's Melanie McQuaid stayed true to her Xterra routes by racing in the 2010 Xterra Trail Run Worlds in Kualoa Ranch on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.
