Instant oatmeal gives you the benefits of whole grains without the wait time—just be wary of added sugars and salt in flavored varieties. Here are some of our favorite choices.

Nature’s Path Organic
The cinnamon blueberry flax flavor is certified organic, is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and has 5 grams of protein (the most in this review) per serving. Each serving contains 8 grams of sugar (the least in this review), 25 grams of whole grains plus fiber.
$3.99 for eight packets, Naturespath.com

Three Sisters
We like the heartiness of the dark chocolate flavor, but we recommend making it with milk for a creamier taste. It’s made with all-natural ingredients, including flaxseed and chocolate chips, and each serving contains 28 grams of whole grains, plus fiber and protein, but also the most sodium (220mg) of any in this review.
$2.49 for five packets, Threesisterscereal.com

Kashi Heart to Heart
Kashi added antioxidants from grape seed, green tea and beta carotene (which has an orange pigment, if you’re confused by the orange flecks while eating it). The oatmeal contains E and B vitamins, protein, fiber, 29 grams of whole grains and 100mg sodium (the lowest of these four oatmeals).
$3.99 for eight packets, Kashi.com

Quaker
We love the taste and texture of the cinnamon and spice oatmeal, partly because it’s the most familiar. Just because this classic instant oatmeal has been around for so long doesn’t mean it’s not healthy—it has the largest amount of whole grains (30 grams) and iron per serving in this review.
$4.39 for 10 packets, Quakeroats.com
