Ironman announced today that Zell Am See-Kaprun Salzburgerland, Austria will host the 2015 Ironman 70.3 World Championships. The race will take place Aug. 30, 2015.
Zell Am See-Kaprun Salzburgerland is a popular vacation destination in the region. At 3,000 meters above see level, the location is known for its sparkling lake and views of the meadow-covered mountains and nearby snow-covered glacier. The area currently hosts the Ironman 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun. More about the course and the event will be revealed at a press conference next Tuesday, April 8.
Ironman announced back in November that four European cities were being considered to host the 2015 world championship event. Haugesund (Norway), Luxembourg and Nice (France) were also in the running.
Zell Am See-Kaprun Salzburgerland will be the second venue to host the Ironman 70.3 World Championships since it was announced in 2013 that the race would rotate to different global locations each year. Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, Canada will host this year’s world championships.
Clearwater, Fla. hosted the Ironman 70.3 World Championships from 2006 to 2010 before it was moved to Henderson, Nev. for 2011 to 2013.
