Ironman Announces Mont-Tremblant As 2014 70.3 Worlds Host

Three weeks after announcing that starting in 2014 the Ironman 70.3 World Championships will rotate around the globe each year, Ironman today revealed the date and location of next year’s race. The 2014 Ironman 70.3 World Championships will head to Mont-Tremblant, Québec, Canada, with the race taking place on Sept. 7, 2014. The date, which is similar to when it has been in Henderson, Nev. over the past two years, keeps the race about a month out from the Ironman World Championship. Several athletes have in the past said that they like that date placement because they can compete as part of the lead up to the Kona race. Prior to Henderson (which hosted the race in 2011, 2012 and will for the final time this year on Sept. 8), the race took place in Clearwater, Fla. from 2006 to 2010 about a month after the Ironman World Championship.

Mont-Tremblant will also host its Ironman and 70.3 races earlier in the year. This marks the first time one venue will host three separate Ironman branded events in one year.

“The choice of Mont-Tremblant as the host venue for the 2014 Ironman 70.3 World Championship was an obvious one given the success of the inaugural Ironman events held here in 2012,” said Andrew Messick, Chief Executive Officer of Ironman in a press release. “We are confident that Mont-Tremblant and the province of Québec will be the ideal hosts for the first Ironman World Championship event to be held outside of the United States.”

“We are thrilled to welcome the Ironman 70.3 World Championship to Mont-Tremblant,” Mont-Tremblant Mayor Pierre Pilon said in the press release. “Today’s announcement is another testimonial to the fact that extraordinary cooperation and dynamism within a community can become an important economic strength.”
