Sunday’s Vineman Ironman 70.3 will feature a top-notch women’s field. The feature athlete of Sunday’s race will be Australia’s Mirinda Carfrae. Carfrae has been on fire this season, with several half-Ironman distance victories already under her belt. Carfrae’s biggest challenge will be keeping pace with the fast group of cyclists racing on Sunday. Last year’s second place finisher American Tyler Stewart has been taking time away from triathlon since her top-10 finish at the Ironman World Championships last October. Stewart has been competing in cycling races and will likely be towards the front heading onto the run. The women’s starting list also includes recent Ironman Coeur d’Alene winner Linsey Corbin, Dede Griesbauer, Meredith Kessler, Angela Naeth and Xterra star Melanie McQuaid.

With last year’s champion Joe Gambles out of the race due to injuries, the race for the men’s title is wide open. The men’s starting list includes Jimmy Archer, James Cotter, Kieran Doe, Tim Marr, Justin Park and Andrew Yoder.
