Swami’s Loop: This 37-mile classic North County ride features moderate hills, a glimpse of the ocean and a fun sweep through Elfin Forest. You can stop at the Church of God Escondido at mile 19 to refill your bottles with their hose on the west side of the building.
Great Western Loop: If you have the time and motivation to jump in a car and drive to a start point, this is a fantastic destination. It features a long, gradual climb and minimal traffic. It’s a great respite from the busy roads of North County. Bring everything you need–there are no spots to refuel during this ride.
Palomar Mountain: The biggest peak in the San Diego area is a great place to test your mettle. Pick any of the roads in the area to create a loop or out-and-back with this beast of a climb. Temperatures get oppressive during the summer and frigid in the winter, so pack accordingly.
