Last month, Nuun and Company launched three new flavors of its electrolyte tablets based on customer feedback: cherry limeade (with caffeine), watermelon and lemonade. So we passed the tablets around the Triathlete offices to find out first impressions of the new flavors.
Caffeine-enhanced cherry limeade:
Even though each tablet contains 40mg of caffeine, the drink masks the bitterness of caffeine well. One staff member thought they tasted “like those Rocket popsicles,” while another said the cherry limeade flavor was “reminiscent of childhood, like a popsicle you’d get from the ice cream man. It’s refreshing and flavorful, but not too sweet.”
Lemonade:
The new lemonade flavor is sweet without the puckering effect: It “has realistic lemon flavor without the tang of true lemonade,” said one staff member. Another person remarked that this is “the next best thing” to stopping at a kids’ lemonade stand during a hot summer run. “The lemonade flavor evokes memories of summer and is pleasantly (yet subtly) refreshing. What other flavor could possibly taste more like summer?”
Watermelon:
While watermelon seemed the most unique of the three new flavors, it’s now become a favorite among the staff—samples went quickly. One called it “spectacularly delicious,” while another said it’s “by far my new favorite flavor. [It’s] refreshing and so flavorful, like summer in a glass.”
All three flavors have complete electrolyte profiles (sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium), 38 mg of vitamin C and 8 calories per tablet (one quick-dissolving tablet makes a 16oz drink). While all three flavors are made without sugar, one editor commented, “None have a hint of that artificial sweetener flavoring. They all go down really smoothly.” The new flavors are now available for $6.50 (for a tube of 12 tablets). Visit Nuun.com for more information.
