Not that Salomon had a lot of incentive to mess with a good thing when it came to one of trail running’s most defining and beloved shoes of all time, but some tweaks here and there did improve the stalwart’s grip and fit. The outsole now features improved chevron lugs that help define the fifth-generation Speedcross. A new protective layer in the sole adds push-through protection and enhanced cushioning, and a slightly altered fit helps give the foot greater security and stability. Unfortunately, there are some issues with slippage in the speed lacing system.
