Wahoo’s new base model of direct-drive smart trainers is an example of the exact features most triathletes need, without the extras they don’t. A small footprint (though a handle would be nice), a very quiet direct belt drive, and solid, practical construction all make the Core a good option for triathletes. For $300 less than Wahoo’s flagship KICKR trainer, riders still get a 16-percent grade simulation, an 1,800W ceiling, and Bluetooth and ANT+ FE-C transmission. The Core’s biggest selling point is its rock-solid connectivity with all third-party virtual training environments—it connects quickly and holds a signal incredibly well. Its compatibility with fun extras like Wahoo’s KICKR CLIMB is another bonus for those who think they might want more while riding inside.
