Fitbit Surge updates for cyclists

If you use a Fitbit Surge to track your rides, new features are now available — delivered in the form of a software update — that will give you more training information and extend the GPS watch’s battery life. The Surge now has timer and stopwatch capabilities so you can monitor your progress in minutes, seconds, or fractions of a second. Fitbit says the update also extends the Surge’s battery life to record exercises, heart rate, and routes for up to 10 hours with GPS turned on or up to seven days total. And just to kick Fitbit squarely into cycling mainstream, the fitness company recently brought on Jens Voigt as the newest “performance” Fitbit ambassador. Read more.

Polar M450 cycling computer now available

Polar’s new M450 cycling computer features integrated GPS and barometer technology as well as power, cadence, and heart rate capabilities, making it a direct challenge to Garmin’s head units. The M450 also includes a visibility LED light for safe rides as well as a Back To Start feature that guides cyclists back to their starting point. The M450 is available for $170 and $200 with Polar H7 heart rate sensor. You can add some personalized style with interchangeable covers too. Read more.

First aid in your bottle cage

For the bigger crashes and more severe wounds, Pedal IQ offers a compact first aid kit designed for cyclists.
