Not only is it more comfortable for most athletes to have their arms angled up 10–15 degrees, it’s also more aerodynamic. Zipp’s new Vuka Alumina Evo Extensions are designed to accommodate this fit philosophy with two extension options that place your hands closer to your head.
- The extensions have a 20mm inward roll that moves your hands closer together to further reduce drag. They can accommodate Zipp’s BTA Mount and, according to Zipp, filling the gap between the arms with a water bottle smooths airflow and improves aerodynamics.
- You can rotate the bars in the clamps to customize your position depending on your preferred amount of inward roll. The 110mm rise extensions will get you pretty close to the praying mantis position currently utilized by several pro triathletes including Jesse Thomas and T.J. Tollakson.
- The bars come with four different riser options, but if you’re not sure which set-up is right for you a Zipp app allows you to input your fit coordinates to emulate your current position.
- Zipp also launched the Vuka Aero cockpit that builds on the success of the Vuka Stealth. The Vuka Aero has a removable center cap that sits in front of the stem to make the basebar more aerodynamic, supplying the smooth profile of an integrated cockpit with the flexibility to use any stem to achieve your ideal fit.
