Hammerhead Karoo

The Draw: All the bells, all the whistles

Heading out the door? Read this article on the new Outside+ app available now on iOS devices for members! Download the app.

Though a relatively new name to the GPS cycling computer game, Hammerhead has taken an entirely different approach with a unit that goes as big and as customizable as possible. Boasting a gigantic screen (paired with a gigantic back), the Karoo’s laser-crisp full-color screen has resolution that would put some iPhones to shame. The excellent touchscreen helps navigate the very intuitive Android OS-based system and offers a crazy amount of data display, collection, and customization. Like a few other units, the Karoo does automatic data WiFi uploading (no smartphone app required), but this device takes it a step further with an available SIM card slot for live cell updates without the need for a router or smartphone. While some may balk at the large size and heft of this unit—sensor connectivity was good, but not perfect on more advanced pedaling dynamics—this is the deluxe of luxe bike computers.
