Vancouver’s beautiful Spanish Banks were a flurry of endurance activity as over 600 triathletes,
of all ages and abilities, hailing from 10 countries competed at the 3rd annual Subaru
Vancouver International Triathlon today.
In the professional field Quebec’s Magali Tisseyre, who currently holds the fastest womens half
ironman time in the world this year, did not disappoint with a convincing victory and new course
record time of 4:14:34. Bree Wee, of Kona Hawaii was a strong second in 4:23:12 as she
prepares for the Hawaii Ironman this fall in her home town, and local athlete Christine Fletcher
rounded out the podium in 4:30:32 in her first race coming back from a stress fracture injury.
In the men’s race Jordan Rapp of the US took the lead early in the bike and never looked back
claiming over a 7 minute lead off the bike eventually leading to his first place 3:53:17 final
clocking – also a new course record. Stephen Kilshaw of Victoria, Canada claimed second
place besting his mentor and Vancouver defending champion, Jasper Blake who took 3rd.
Kilshaw keeps his Subaru West Coast Series podium streak alive after his victory early this year
in the Subaru Shawnigan Lake Triathlon, and 2nd place finish at the New Balance Half.
In the shorter Sprint distance race, top North American professional woman’s finisher at the
2008 Hawaii Ironman World Championship, Linsey Corbin took the title. In the fun “Olympic
Battle” which drew 13 Olympic athletes from different sports, the Summer Olympians won the
challenge over the potential 2010 Winter Olympians. The team of men’s Olympic Gold medal
rowers took the overall title.
