The second edition of Super League kicks off in Jersey, UK this weekend—now with women’s races!
Super League is Chris McCormack’s baby. The Ironman world champ debuted the super-sprint, multi-race format in March on Australia’s Hamilton Island, earning respect for its high-quality live broadcast, and admonition for leaving out the women.
This weekend, Super League is back for round two in Jersey, UK, with both women and men vying for the title, TV exposure, and equal prize money of $130,000 for both the men and women. (The first edition handed the winner, South Africa’s Richard Murray, $100,000.)
This time, the race will take place over two days instead of three. The first day of racing will feature the Triple Mix, split into three stages: Stage 1 is swim (300M)-bike(6K)-run(2K), Stage 2 is run-bike-swim, and Stage 3 is bike-swim-run.
Day two features The Eliminator:
Round 1 – Swim (300m), Bike (6km), Run (2km)
(10-minute break commences when round winner crosses the finish line)
Top 15 finishers of Round 1 proceed to Round 2
Round 2 – Swim (300m), Bike (6km), Run (2km)
(10-minute break commences when round winner crosses the finish line)
Top 10 finishers of Round 2 proceed to Round 3
Round 3 – Swim (300m), Bike (6km), Run (2km)
The first athlete across the finish line in Round 3 is the overall winner of Eliminator.
The event has an all-star roster, including two-time ITU world champion Mario Mola, reigning Super League champ Richard Murray, and Olympic medalist Jonathan Brownlee on the men’s side, and London Olympic silver medalist, Nicola Spirig, and ITU world champ bronze medalist, Katie Zaferes on the women’s.
The Live shows will stream on Superleaguetriathlon.com and Youtube.com/superleaguetriathlon, and at 5 a.m. PST/8 a.m. EST on ESPN3.
