Sam Appleton, Holly Lawrence Win 70.3 Santa Rosa

Australia's Sam Appleton and Great Britain's Holly Lawrence claimed the victories at today's inaugural Ironman 70.3 Santa Rosa in Northern California.

Australia’s Sam Appleton and Great Britain’s Holly Lawrence claimed the victories at today’s Ironman 70.3 Santa Rosa in Northern California. Appleton was first out of the swim (23:30 split), first off of the bike (2:03:26 split) and first at the finish line (1:14:51 run split) to claim the victory in an impressive 3:46:47. Fellow Australian Joe Gambles was second, with American Tim O’Donnell earning the final podium spot.

Lawrence was also dominant across the three disciplines, turning in a 24:38 swim, a 2:18:08 bike and a 1:25:17 half-marathon to take the win in 4:13:20. American Sarah Piampiano was second, with Australian Carrie Lester finishing in third.
