Out of town visitors to Oceanside are always welcomed by the locals.
The race’s beachside expo is an awesome way to kick off the season, especially for those athletes coming from cooler climates.
As the sun starts to rise, age-group athletes warm-up in Oceanside Harbor. This race always features a pretty chilly start with the temperatures warming up dramatically over the following couple of hours.
This is the first year that the race has used a rolling start. Athletes self-seeded based on their anticipated swim finish time and then entered the water one at at time. It took about 46 minutes to get all of the athletes in the water.

The rolling start made for a long wait for some athletes. Plenty of time to think about the day ahead.
The rolling start was intended to make for a less chaotic swim for athletes.

Ironman 70.3 Oceanside is the hometown race for the San Diego Tri Club, whose members are out in full force both competing and supporting their friends and teammates.
A chance encounter by race partners on the run course clearly gives them both a burst of energy toward finishing the race.
