The third running of the Casco Bay Islands SwimRun took place Sunday, August 12. Cool temps and a light drizzle made for perfect swimrun racing conditions in Maine. Two hundred twenty two-person teams and 20 solo racers started the day, with 165 teams reaching the finish.
The event served as a tribute to race founder Jeff Cole who passed away unexpectedly earlier in the spring. Going forward, the event will be renamed Cole Classic.
Next up for SwimRun USA is SwimRun San Juan Islands, taking place on Sep. 23 on Orcas Island, Wash. The Long Course will feature 18-plus miles of tough trail running with 5600 feet of elevation gain and three-plus miles of swimming in freshwater mountain lakes.
