Nearly 2,000 age-group athletes competed on a beautiful day at Sunday’s Ironman 70.3 Maine in the family-friendly town of Old Orchard Beach. Athletes kicked off the day with a run-in beach start, before moving on to a bike ride through Maine farmland and countryside. Finally, they completed the day with an out-and-back run that culminates with an epic finish in downtown Old Orchard Beach.
California’s Matthew Hurley won the race and the 30-34 age group with a 22:20 swim, a 2:13:09 bike, and a 1:23:50 half-marathon—crossing the finish line at 4:04:43.
Massachusetts’ Melissa Norcross won the women’s title (and the 35-39 age group) in 4:44:24, thanks to a 31:16 swim, a 2:34:04 bike, and a 1:32:29 half-marathon.
