The fourth edition of the half-iron distance Challenge Salou in the resort town along Spain’s northeastern Costa Daurada was highlighted by a battle to the finish between Cameron Wurf and Pablo Dapena. Dapena led out of the water, but suffered from stomach issues on the bike segment—allowing former pro cyclist Wurf to take the top spot going onto the run and onto the finish line. Wurf won at 3:45:37, with Dapena finishing second a minute later at 3:46:38 and George Coogwin routing out the top three at 3:49:23.

In the women’s race, Judith Carachan earned the victory in 4:12:05, with Laura Siddall finishing in the runner-up spot at 4:16:26. Margie Santimaria earned third in 4:20:48.
