Over the weekend, age-group athletes descended upon the picturesque mountain town of Boise, Idaho to tackle the eighth annual Ironman 70.3 Boise. For the first time in the history of the race, the event was strictly an age-group affair. The race is one of the 11 70.3 races and nine full Ironman events in North America which lost their pro prize purse as part of Ironman’s prize redistribution in 2015.

California resident Jesse Moore posted the fastest time of the day with a 4:15:57 finish. Skye Murphy of Utah was the top female with a time of 4:42:05.

According to an article in The Idaho Statesman, the Boise 70.3 event is in limbo for future years, as the contract between Ironman and the Boise Convention & Visitors Bureau expired after the 2015 event and has not yet been renewed. Negotiations are currently taking place over the required $50,000 sponsorship fee, which is more than the visitors bureau pays for any other event in Boise.
