After a quiet season, two-time Ironman 70.3 world champion Michael Raelert competed at Sunday’s Ironman 70.3 Miami and beat out tough competition in a tight race to add another 70.3 title to his resume. On the women’s side, Canada’s Magali Tisseyre turned in a solid all-around performance to take the win.

Men’s Race
American David Kahn led the men out of the 1.2-mile swim in 25:04, with Raelert, Yunior Rosete (USA), Matt Reed (USA) and a handful of others following about 30 seconds back. Cunningham, who was part of that first group out of the water, found the front of the bike race with Kahn chasing close behind. They were eventually joined by Raelert, and Kahn narrowly led the German and Australian into T2. Raelert used his signature run speed to take control of the race. He took the lead early and held it to the finish line, crossing for the win at 3:46:47 thanks to a 1:12:25 run. Cunningham finished second at 3:47:16, with Ukraine’s Viktor Zyemtsev running his way to third at 3:48:11.

Women’s Race
Americans Amanda Stevens and Lauren Goss were the first two out of the water at 26:30 and 26:33, respectively, with Tisseyre, 2012 Ironman world champion Leanda Cave (GBR) and a few others starting the bike about 40 seconds back. Tisseyre caught Stevens and Goss, and the trio rode out front all the way to T2. Tissyere had the fastest transition to start the run in first, with Goss (11 seconds back) and Stevens (12 seconds back) right on her heels, and Cave well in contention at only 39 seconds back. The early miles of the run featured a battle between Goss and Tisseyre, with the others falling off pace. Tisseyre quickly managed to establish a solid lead and ran a 1:20:09 half marathon on the way to a 4:06:38 victory. Goss cruised to second, with Stevens rounding out the top three.
