Australia’s Chris McCormack has confirmed that he was not selected to be on Australia’s 2012 London Olympic team.
Although the team has yet to be revealed to the public, McCormack tweeted on Friday, June 1 that he was not selected.
@Maccanow: “Back to my day job! I need an Hawaiian holiday again soon 🙂 No London for me! Happy for the Team we picked! Solid, deserving athletes.”
The tweet implies that McCormack will be back at the 2012 Ironman World Championship this fall after forgoing the 2011 Kona race to try to qualify for the Olympics.
Getting to the start line for Kona will be a fairly easy task for the two-time Ironman world champ. Because he has won the race within the last five years, McCormack will simply need to complete an Ironman event to “validate” his entry. McCormack will race at Ironman Cairns this Sunday (a race he had agreed to start when it was a Challenge Series event), meaning that within 48 hours McCormack will likely have a spot on the Kona start list.

McCormack has also expressed interest in racing the 2012 Ironman World Championship 70.3 event in Henderson, Nev. in September.
@Maccanow: “Locked in for Ironman 70.3 Japan. Thinking of having a crack at my first ever 70.3 World Championships this year in Vegas. Need points!”
McCormack will need to find his way into the top 50 of the 70.3 Pro Rankings. The first 40 slots will be handed out on July 16, with the remaining 10 going on August 13. Ironman 70.3 Japan will take place on June 24 and is a P-500 race, meaning that the winner will earn 500 points. It is the lowest on the 70.3 Pro Ranking scale.
