Brazil’s Guilherme Manocchio and the United States’ Haley Chura earned breakthrough wins at today’s Ironman Forteleza in Brazil.
Manocchio took the home race thanks to a 52:20 swim, a 4:32:09 bike and a 3:02:22 marathon. Those splits added up to an 8:30:15 victory. Spain’s Eneko Llanos spent a good chunk of the day up front, but he ultimately struggled on the run and had to settle for second in 8:32:02. Brazil’s Thiago Vinhal was the only man to turn in a sub-three hour marathon (2:58:18), giving him the third spot on the podium in 8:52:55.
Chura dominated the women’s field, putting together a 51:52 swim, a 4:57:46 bike and a 3:15:59 marathon for the 9:09:20 victory. Brazil’s Ariane Monticeli finished second, with American Jesse Donavan grabbing third.
