With Hurricane Dorian moving up the coast, organizers of the 16th annual Lobsterman Triathlon in Freeport, Maine monitored the weather closely in the days leading up to the race and were ultimately able to see the event through. Several New England triathlons were cancelled over the weekend but with the swim taking place in the protected waters of Casco Bay, the organizers remained optimistic. Although 900 people from six countries and 31 states registered for the race, the weather deterred some and 600 athletes competed in the event.
The race is known across the country for its stunning course and its authentic Maine lobster bake. Athletes competed in the Olympic Distance event, completing a slightly shortened swim of .8-mile swim in Casco Bay, a 24.7-mile bike, and a 6.2-mile run before partaking in a lobster bake at the completion of the race.
The Lobsterman Triathlon is also designated as an official event on the Northeast Collegiate Triathlon Conference schedule. The Conference winner for the event was the Army Triathlon Team, followed by Northeastern University in second place and the University of Connecticut in third place.
