Ironman announced today the new Physically Challenged Open/Exhibition Division drawing for both the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 World Championship events. Free registration will be available starting today.

Through this initiative, five physically challenged athletes from around the world will be drawn to receive entry to the 2016 Ironman World Championship which takes place in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. In addition, a separate registration and drawing will be held for three physically challenged athletes to receive entry to the 2016 Ironman 70.3 World Championship taking place in Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Both the Ironman World Championship and Ironman 70.3 World Championship Physically Challenged Open/Exhibition Divisions will be available to athletes with a medically verified physical, visual, or neurological impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.

Athletes who are drawn for the 2016 Ironman World Championship will need to validate their entry by completing an Ironman or Ironman 70.3 branded event held between Oct. 10, 2015 and Aug. 21, 2016. Athletes who are drawn for the 2016 Ironman 70.3 World Championship will need to validate their entry by completing an Ironman or Ironman 70.3 branded event held between Aug. 30, 2015 and July 3, 2016.
