Americans Hunter Kemper and Alicia Kaye earned the victories at the Capital of Texas Triathlon in Austin, Texas on Memorial Day. After a week of rough weather, conditions eased for the athletes with the rain staying away for event. The race also served as host of the 2013 USA Triathlon Paratriathlon National Championships.

Men’s Race
American Joe Maloy posted the fastest swim split at 18:34, but he exited the water with the United States’ Eric Lagerstrom, Kemper and Cameron Dye right on his heels. As he always does, Dye used the bike leg to take over the top spot. This time he did not build a commanding lead and started the run with a slim gap over Kemper, American Ben Collins and Maloy. From there, Kemper used the speed that gained him a spot on four Olympic teams. His 32:17 10K run time gave him the victory in 1:49:09. Maloy also went sub-33 on the run to earn second, with Collins rounding out the top three.

Women’s Race
Super swimmer Sara McLarty (USA) earned a large lead out of the 1.5K swim, exiting the water in a time of 19:03. Kaye was second at 20:44, with American Lauren Goss coming into transition two seconds later. Kaye excelled on the bike. Her 59:56 bike split was on par with some of the male professional competitors. Her lead from T2 only grew thanks to a 37:16 10K run. She earned the victory in 2:01:00. American Kelly Williamson, who lives and trains in the Austin area, posted the fastest run split at 35:17 to earn second. New Zealand’s Samantha Warriner, who is coming back after having a baby last year, finished third.

Life Time Tri Pro Series
The Cap Tex Tri served as the second of seven races in the Life Time Tri series. Collins and Denmark’s Helle Frederiksen (who did not race in Austin) held the lead heading into Monday’s event.
