Professional triathletes Eneko Llanos (ESP), Marino Vanhoenacker (BEL), Cameron Brown (NZL), Craig Alexander (AUS), Caroline Steffen (SUI), Meredith Kessler (USA) and Gina Crawford (NZL) gathered in Melbourne ahead of Sunday’s Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship. Here are a few quotes from the event:
Caroline Steffen: “For me the run feels like family, I’m familiar with the run. I love the point to point run. When you start you can see the city, see the finish.”
Cameron Brown:” I feel fresh after Ironman New Zealand, the Sunday after I wasn’t coming, but my recovery has been the best I’ve ever had after an Ironman. I had such a great time here last year and wanted to come back and enjoy the experience.”
Meredith Kessler: “I’ve done two weeks apart and they have worked out okay. I’m hoping I just don’t feel the effects of two Ironman races in four weeks. The key to recovery for me is to keep my body moving, just keeping the legs flowing.”
Marino Vanhoenacker: “I decided to come here because there was one fast runner in New Zealand, and four or five here, so I decided why go for one fast runner when you can compete against four or five.”
“I did the bike course by car yesterday and my legs felt good.”
“I had a rough time after Kona, so I hope I bounce back.”
Eneko Llanos: “Nothing different from last preparation wise. I have prepared the same as I did last year. I raced in Abu Dhabi three weeks ago, I haven’t changed much, I’ve trained on the course for the last two and a half weeks.”
“I really paid for the fast pace in the run last year, I tried to go as fast as I can in the run last year and I will this year.”
Craig Alexander: “The motivation for me comes from who is sitting next to me and stature of the race. For me seeing who was in the start list was enough motivation for me.”
