Gomez To Make Half-Iron Debut In Barcelona

Olympic silver medalist Javier Gomez has announced that he will make his debut at the half-iron distance on May 19 in his home country. Gomez, who won the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon on Sunday, will be racing at the 2013 Challenge Half Barcelona, which will double as the 2013 ETU European Half Distance Triathlon Championships.
“Hello friends, I am confirming that I’ll be making my Middle Distance debut in Calella at the Half Challenge Barcelona on May 19,” Gomez announced. “I’ll be with you for what is an important challenge in my sporting career: my first ever middle distance race. I hope to enjoy it, to suffer it and hopefully it’ll all go well and the race will be… great! Good luck to all of you, and I’ll see you there!”
The jump up to the half-iron distance is one that many have been eager to see. Gomez has been dominant in non-drafting Olympic-distance racing and has shown no weakness across swim, bike and run.
Also competing will be two-time Ironman world champion, and Challenge Series ambassador, Chris “Macca” McCormack.
