Cameron Dye and Alicia Kaye took the victories today at Life Time Tri Minneapolis on a shortened course. Due to flooding on the international-distance course, all pros and age groupers raced on the sprint course, which consisted of a 0.25-mile swim, 15-mile bike and 3.1-mile run.

In the men’s race, American Dustin McLarty was easily first out of the quarter-mile swim in a time of 8:18, followed 30 seconds back by a pack of five men, including Dye, American Hunter Kemper, and British triathlete Stuart Hayes. Dye then used a second-best bike of 36:34 to take the lead into T2, while American Ben Collins used a race-best bike of 36:13 to pull into second place. On the run, Dye’s 16:20 5K gave him enough of an advantage to take the win, while Kemper finished 19 seconds later with his 15:35 run. Hayes took the final podium spot.

In the women’s race, Sara McLarty was first out of Lake Nokomis in a time of 11:07, followed by Lauren Brandon and Kaye. Kaye then used an impressive 39:18 bike (good for 11th best overall, including the men) to pull away from the field heading into T2. The second best bike among women came from Switzerland’s Daniela Ryf (41:00), but third best was McLarty (41:18), who was second into T2. The finish wasn’t nearly so close as the men’s race, as Kaye used a second-best 5K time of 17:30 to take the win, while American Lauren Goss used a race-best 15:10 run to take second more than a minute and a half back. Ryf rounded out the podium.

Life Time Tri Minneapolis kicks off the Toyota Triple Crown Triathlon Series. Both Dye and Kaye went home with $10,000 from this race, and have earned 10 points in the Race to the Toyota Cup. The inaugural Life Time Tri Oceanside will be the final event in the series.
