Cameron Dye (USA) claimed his third-straight Philadelphia victory, while Alicia Kaye (USA) once again showed her strength at the distance with a dominant win at the 10th running of the Johnson & Johnson TriRock Philadelphia Triathlon presented by Philadelphia Insurance Companies.

More than 30 triathletes competed in the PHLY Cup pro division, which launched in partnership with Philadelphia Insurance Companies (PHLY) last year. The PHLY Cup evenly splits a prize purse totaling $25,000 between the men and women top-five finishers in the Olympic distance.

Men’s Race
Dye came out of the 1.5K swim on the heels of Andy Potts (USA) in 16:19, dominated the 40K bike in 55:08 and then held on with a solid 35:05 10K run. He crossed the finish line in 1:48:06.

“You never know until it’s over,” said Dye, who glanced over his shoulder to check on his competition one last time before crossing the finish line. “I’m ecstatic to win the race three years in a row. I worked really hard over the past eight years to get where I am today. To finally be able to consistently win races is what we train for. Swimming is my background, cycling is my strength, but my run has been the biggest area I’ve improved in over the past few years. Now I can run faster off the bike wave.”

Potts finished second to Dye for the third year in a row, crossing at 1:49:41. USA Triathlon collegiate champion Rudy Von Berg (ITA) rounded out the top three, posting a fast 33:51 run split on his way to the podium finish in 1:49:53.

Women’s Race
Sara McLarty (USA) opened the women’s race with a dominant swim performance, coming into T1 after a 16:49 swim. Catherine Jameson (USA) was next out of the swim in 17:38, and Kaye followed her closely at 17:42. Like Dye, Kaye used her strength on the bike to open up a lead before the second transition. Kaye followed her race-best bike split (1:02:14) with a race-best run split (37:47), giving her the 1:59:36 victory.

“I never let my foot off the gas, and just wanted to race my best regardless of the lead I had,” Kaye said at the finish line. “It was more about putting out a really hard effort.”

McLarty easily held onto second, crossing at 2:03:59. American Laurel Wassner had a solid all-around day to finish in third at 2:06:00.
