Americans Cameron Dye and Alicia Kaye earned valuable points toward the Life Time Fitness Triathlon Series Race to the Toyota Cup by taking the victories at the Herbalife Los Angeles Triathlon.
Men’s Race
The pro action kicked off with Australia’s James Seear leading the men onto Venice Beach with a 1.5K swim time of 18:48. Next out of the water was Ben Collins (USA) in 18:55, followed by Dye and Kevin Everett (USA) in 18:57. Dye dominated the 40K bike course, posting a race-best 53:38 split to start the run with a sizeable lead. Dye cruised through the 10K run in 32:39, giving him the 1:46:57 victory. American Chris Foster nearly broke the 30-minute barrier on the run, posting a 30:03 split time to take second in 1:48:04. Collins posted solid split times across swim, bike and run to earn third. Olympian Hunter Kemper (USA) was looking to take the lead in the series with a victory, but had to settle for fourth. He tweeted after the race that he had been feeling ill leading up to the weekend.
Women’s Race
Great Britain’s Liz Blatchford led the women out of the water with a swim time of 20:30. Bermuda’s Flora Duffy (20:35) and American Lauren Goss (20:44) were next into T1. Kaye started the bike in sixth place and 30 seconds down of the leaders. She destroyed the competition on the bike leg and was the only woman to post a bike split of under one hour. The 58:26 bike time gave her the lead to start the run. She backed the bike performance up with a solid 36:42 run to earn the 1:57:57 win. Goss ran her way to second, finishing in 1:59:30. Duffy crossed 20 seconds after Goss to round out the podium.
Athletes will head to Dallas, Texas next weekend for the series’ finale. Dye and American Sarah Haskins will carry the leads into the race and will look to earn the top prizes. The top male and female in the standings after Dallas will each receive $60,000 plus a Toyota vehicle.
