After a handful of new race announcements in interesting locations, such as Venice, Aruba and Iceland, Challenge Family has again revealed a new race at a unique venue. Challenge Turku, taking place in the old capital of Finland, will take place on Aug. 13 and 14. Saturday will feature junior and short distance races, with Sunday hosting the Challenge Turku Half Distance race.

The 1.2-mile swim is located at the river mouth, where the swim segment will be easily followed by spectators from the riverbanks. The river hosts many museum ships and swimming has been described like a tour in an open-air museum.

The 56-mile bike segment will take the athletes across the city to the highway, where the race can also be followed from the many bridges crossing the route. The 13.1-mile run course takes place along the riverbanks through the city center before finishing in Varvintori Square, the epicenter of cultural and sporting events on the river front

”Joining Challenge Family is a great honor and achievement for the race that saw its introduction first time in 2015,” said Challenge Turku Race Director Heikki Jaatinen. “The race weekend exceeded all our expectations and taking this step towards the Challenge Family is a natural continuation for us.”
