With the 2020 Tokyo Olympics just over a year away, the American women are proving to be in a strong position – earning all three podium position at the 2019 ITU WTS Yokohama event on Saturday. The trio was led by Katie Zaferes, who has dominated the World Triathlon Series in 2019 and sits atop the rankings with a perfect 3,000. Her third-straight WTS victory came in 1:52:12. Summer Rappaport was second in 1:52:12, with Taylor Spivey crossing in third at 1:53:29.
“Every time I think this has got to end sometime, but I go for it each time,” Zaferes says of her winning streak. “I am using a more risky mindset where I am just trying different things and I think it makes it more fun and it’s going well.”
