Set in beautiful Monterrey, Mexico, this new 70.3 race will be a destination event for athletes and their families.

Ironman announced its newest race, to be held March 16, 2014 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The swim will take place in the Santa Lucia River, one of Monterrey’s most popular tourist destinations, and finish at the Mexican History Museum at Macroplaza downtown. The Santa Lucia River promenade starts at the “Ojos de Agua de Santa Lucia,” where the city of Monterrey was founded. It connects the Macro Plaza at the Mexican History Museum all the way to the Parque Fundidora. The promenade features 10 pedestrian bridges between the corridors and 22 fountains.

The fast 56-mile bike course starts and finishes at the Macroplaza next to the Governor’s Office Building. The two-loop run course will start and finish at the Macroplaza and will trace the scenic Santa Lucia Riverwalk as well as wind through Fundidora Park.

Ironman 70.3 Monterrey will offer a professional prize purse of $50,000 and 40 age-group slots to the 2014 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, Canada.
