Inside Triathlon’s Parting Shot: Kelly Williamson Playing It Cool

After sustaining a foot injury at the Hy-Vee Elite Cup, American pro Kelly Williamson was nervous about her start a week later at the Ironman World Championship 70.3 at Lake Las Vegas. “I actually had kind of a bum foot for most of the week from Hy-Vee,” she said. “I had to take a little more rest, but it was probably good for me.” Good? Williamson not only finished second at Vegas, but also ran a 1:23:19 half-marathon, the fastest female split by six minutes. Photographer Jeff Clark caught up with her at the finish line. “Kelly was totally spent,” he said. “We had the cooler and she wanted ice—she said her feet hurt a lot. I asked if she would like to just jump in the cooler and she was excited. So we pulled it onto the backdrop and did it. I washed the tops off the drinks after that.”
