Learn more about the age groupers that dominated last weekend in Las Vegas at the Loews XTERRA West Cup.
While Conrad Stoltz and Melanie McQuaid were duking it out with Josiah Middaugh and Shonny Vanlandingham in the pro races last Saturday, there were also some heated battles in the amateur ranks at the Loews XTERRA West Cup as 34 age group athletes earned their spot into the XTERRA World Championship in Maui.
“Coach Cal” Zaryski (pictured here in Maui, courtesy Nils Nilsen) from Canada edged Adam Wirth of Boise, Idaho by just 32 seconds to win the men’s amateur race. Zaryski finished 14th overall, ahead of several pros. In the women’s race Cary Kinross-Wright, who is no stranger to the top step on the podium at XTERRA races, crossed the line more than five minutes ahead of runner-up Erin Collins,third-place finisher Brandyn Roark-Gray and the reigning amateur XTERRA World Champ Keri Grosse.
