WTC sent out an email last night stating that it has changed the prize purse rules of the Ironman Pro Membership program. While athletes must still be within 8% of the winner’s time in order to receive any prize money, the money will now be redistributed to the athletes who are eligible for prize money. According to the email received by members of the program, the redistribution will be based on equal pay to the male and female fields. The email did also states that the new rule will be applied to Ironman 70.3 Geelong and Iroman Malaysia, which have already taken place.

In response and recognition of the results of the first two events under the new Ironman Pro Membership Program which went into effect February 1, 2010 – there will be one amendment to the Rules pertaining to the distribution of the advertised prize purses.
The new WTC Regulations pertaining to qualifying slots (a finish within 5% of the winner) and payment of prize money (a finish within 8% of the winner) will remain in place. The ammendment to this policy by the WTC committee is to distribute the full advertised prize purse to those athletes who qualify within the standards .
The WTC redistribution formula is based on equal distribution of the total purse between Male and Female athletes.
The adjustment to the prize money payments will be effective immediately and will include athletes impacted in the first two events of the year.
All event directors have been notified.
