Women’s-Only Alaska Triathlon Sells Out In 23 Minutes

The popular Anchorage, Alaska-based Gold Nugget Triathlon needed less than 30 minutes to hit its registration cap of 1,500 racers on March 1.

The popular Anchorage, Alaska-based Gold Nugget Triathlon needed less than 30 minutes to hit its registration cap of 1,500 racers on March 1.

Online registration opened at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 1. By 8:23 p.m., would-be participants were shut out.

“You are registrant 1554,” said an email from the race website time-stamped at 8:23 p.m. “However you may have one more chance to receive a slot! If the first 1500 registrants don’t complete their full application and payment by 8 pm on March 9, 2011, we will open up a random lottery for any remaining slots. You have automatically been entered into the lottery pool.”
