Starting this Saturday, the “Triathlon Live” initiative will give Olympic spectators in the United Kingdom the chance to be a part of the action during the Olympic Games. In eight different venues, an Endless Pool, stationary bike and treadmill will be set up next to a big screen showing live coverage of the Games—all in an area less than half the size of a tennis court.
The eight Triathlon Live sites are located in the downtowns of eight cities in England, Scotland and Wales, and participating in the mini triathlon is free (participants need to bring their own swimming and running gear). Each venue will engage Olympic fans to compete in a mini triathlon competition with other cities, some of which will be shown on the big screen in the other venues. The main venue will be set up in Hyde Park (the site of the Olympic triathlon) and will be open every day of the Olympic Games. The women’s race will take place on Aug. 4 at 9 a.m. England time, and the men’s race will take place on Aug. 7 at 11:30 a.m. England time.
Triathlon Live is an initiative by the International Triathlon Union and the British Triathlon Federation working in conjunction with LOCOG, the BBC and local authorities.
