Texas triathlete David Salvette will compete in the Katy Triathlon at Firethorne for the 19th year in a row this weekend.
David Salvette admits he’s a streaker, though not the kind that disrupts ballgames and gets attention on YouTube.
Rather, the amateur triathlete likes to see how many consecutive years he can do an event. That’s one reason he’s is the only person to have completed all 18 Katy Triathlon at Firethorne races. He’ll go for No. 19 on Sunday.
Salvette, 60, also knocked off his 19th Jeff and Brede’s Houston Racing Triathlon in July and has done all eight CB&I Triathlons, held in The Woodlands. The three races are sprint distances with 300- to 500-meter swims, 12- to 16-mile bike rides and three-mile runs.
“I just enjoy it so much; I enjoy streaks,” Salvette said, adding he quit the Try Andy’s Tri in Sugar Land after 10 years because he missed a race.
The streaks haven’t always been easy for Salvette to maintain. He was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes two years ago and has since struggled with related foot problems. Last year, he underwent prostate cancer surgery and had to limit himself to three events. This season, he’s completed six.
