Olympic champion, Emma Snowsill from Australia, has undergone keyhole surgery to repair minor damage to the labrum cartilage of the hip, under the advice of coach and fiancé, Craig Walton.
The Beijing Olympic Games gold medallist returned to Australia from an Australian Institute of Sport triathlon camp in France earlier in the week to seek medical attention as she had been experiencing pain during her last few races which impacted on her training and performance.
“The prognosis is good,” said Walton. “The surgeon believes the repair will be completely successful so Emma is itching to return to the Dextro Energy Triathlon – ITU World Championship Series. She will now rest and recover before starting full training again and is optimistic about being at peak fitness in time for the Dextro Energy Triathlon – ITU World Championship Grand Final which will be held on Australia’s Gold Coast on September 12”.
Snowsill had been in the running for the Dextro Energy Triathlon – ITU World Championship Series crown; however she missed two races in Kitzbühel, Austria and Hamburg, Germany which were both won by compatriot and Olympic Games bronze medallist Emma Moffatt. With just two races remaining, in London, United Kingdom, and Yokohama, Japan, it looks unlikely that Snowsill could attain enough points to be a threat in the overall rankings.
