Sri Lanka To Host Ironman Event

Asian island will be the site of 70.3 and Olympic-distance races next February.
On February 19, 2012, Colombo will host Sri Lanka’s first Ironman 70.3 and 5150 Series race, offering qualifying slots for the Ironman World Championship 70.3 and 5150 Series Championship. The event will become part of the Ironman 70.3 Series that includes over 40 races worldwide and the 15-race 5150 Triathlon Series.
General entry for both Ironman 70.3 and 5150 events is now open online at IronmanSriLanka.com.
The events will be staged from the beautiful Galle Face Green in the backdrop of the Indian Ocean and downtown Colombo. The Ironman 70.3 event will feature a 1.9 kilometer swim, followed by a three-lap 90 kilometer bike and finish with a two-lap 21 kilometer, run. The 5150 Triathlon will feature a 1.5 kilometer swim, followed by a one-lap 40 kilometer bike and finishing with a 10 kilometer run. Over 700 participants are estimated to attend the inaugural event.
