Misfit and Speedo today announced the launch of Speedo Shine—a swim, activity and sleep tracker.
The device includes several of the features that are well known in traditional activity trackers, including calories burned and sleep statistics—but what makes it unique is what it promises for swimmers.
The Shine has proprietary lap counting algorithms embedded in its firmware that will track a swimmer’s lap count with “industry-leading accuracy” and promises to work for all stroke types. It will sync with the Misfit app for iOS and Android and will display laps, swim distance, calories burned and points earned. It will eventually also work with Speedo’s swim tracking app, Speedo Fit.
Speedo Shine is endorsed by Olympic Gold Medalist Missy Franklin. “One of the most difficult parts of swimming for fitness is keeping track of laps and the Speedo Shine eliminates that challenge,” said Franklin in the press release. “With the Speedo Shine, you can focus on getting the most out of your water workout and it’s also a great looking accessory to wear.”
Speedo Shine will initially be available in retail exclusively at Apple stores worldwide Sept. 1, as well as on Misfit.com and SpeedoUSA.com for $79.99.
